As Tunisia works to secure a US$1.78 billion loan from the International Monetary Fund to cover next year's budget, the government has ignited anger across the country raising taxes and cutting subsidies at a time when the economy is struggling to recover from the country's Arab Spring uprising.
Saudi-Arabië dreigt Skype en WhatsApp te blokkeren
De Saudi-Arabische overheid is tegenstander van het internet [en-alle links] en dreigt een aantal populaire communicatiemiddelen, zoals Skype en de mobiele berichtenapp WhatsApp, te blokkeren tenzij de telecombedrijven ermee akkoord gaan dat de overheid inbreuk maakt op de privacy van de gebruikers en hen controleert.
Sigarettenverkoper steekt zichzelf in brand; nog steeds zelfverbrandingen in Tunesië
Vijfentwintig maanden nadat de straatverkoper Mohammed Bouazizi zichzelf in brand stak, blijft het fenomeen zich voordoen in Tunesië. Uit sociaal-economische wanhoop stak Adel Khadri, die op straat sigaretten verkocht, zichzelf op 12 maart in brand in de hoofdstad Tunis, HIj overleed vandaag (13 maart).
